Ready To Run For Xmas & More Lionel Postwar 1954 Set With #6250, Track & Trans

  
Here is a sharp and 98% vintage original postwar Lionel set #1523 from 1954 which originally came with 027-gauge track but has been upgraded to O-gauge to form an oval measuring 41" by 61". The O-gauge track is more rugged and durable and stays together better on carpet or other temporary surfaces if you intend to use it as a set for Xmas, etc. Also includes a vintage 45-watt transformer which is enough to power this heavyweight train around the rails without danger of flying off around a curve (even at full throttle). Though suppose we do need to keep in mind it is close to 70 years old and mechanical parts do sometimes wear out or break, even on Lionel trains!

The track shown in the pictures are the exact pieces you'll receive and each section is also original postwar Lionel with all 3 connector pegs; though still used with some tarnish and a few small spots of rust here and there. There are no original boxes included with the set. The engine is a heavy #6250 with die-cast frame, front and rear lights, a 3-position directional setting (F-N-R), magnetraction and working electric coil couplers (though no uncoupling track is included here). The Seaboard decals on the sides are partly worn but still quite readable while the cab graphics and overall colors are strong with some wear on the blue cab roof.

Cars include the #6456-25 gray hopper with the red lettering, #6511 red-painted pipe car with metal stakes and plastic pipes, #6419-25 work caboose and the #6460-25 crane car with red-painted cab that was actually unique to this set. All cars have bar-end metal trucks with working couplers, and a few of the knuckle springs don't pop open anymore when released yet all stay closed fine for running the train. Overall everything is in very good shape and I think the only replacement or incorrect parts are that the 5 gray plastic pipes are replacements (being thicker than originals) and I think the 4 slotted-head deck screws on the engine should technically have phillips heads this year. Otherwise, the delicate plastic radio antenna on the engine is still there, the smokestack on the caboose isn't cracked or broken and the crane is intact and the assembly works as it should too. I see no cracks, chips or glued-together pieces.

Still a very attractive and colorful set that's both nice enough to be collectable as well as ready to plug in and run!
